The Forum has lobbied hard for the pedestrian crossing to be made safer. Council finally agreed and installed a no stopping sign. So why are people still parking their vehicles there?
A local resident has written to the Forum expressing concern about the safety of pedestrians with cars exiting apartment block driveways across footpaths without stopping or looking to make sure there is no one walking along the path. A letter to the Council and State Member elicited a lukewarm response. Not their problem! They suggested that this is the responsibility of the various strata plans. The Forum thinks that Council should write to strata groups requesting stop signs on apartment properties to remind drivers to stop before they cross the footpath to the road. But while we wait, please be careful and look out for pedestrians when driving across the footpaths from apartment block driveways. And anyone on a strata committee with such a driveway, please consider adding it to your agenda and installing stop signs?
